Best food after braces are fitted!

Your mouth will be incredibly sore after the braces have been fitted- they feel really sensitive every time you chew so you want to eat something really soft and not to hot (hot things cause the braces to contract, making them tighter and creating more pain for you).

I would recommend:

1. ICE CREAM:

This helps to loosen the wire ever so slightly, relieveing some of the pressure. As well as this, you don't have to chew it at all so it causes no pain. Ice cream is also an amazing food so any excuse to eat it for medical purposes should be taken full advantage of!

2. PASTA:

Pasta is generally soft and not to chewey so it's another good food to eat the first few days, I would recommend pasta shells rather than spaghetti as this has a way of winding around the wire and getting stuck to your teeth which really isn't fun when you are cleaning them afterwards.

3. MASHED POTATO:

Once again this is very soft and requires no chewing so it is a good food to stick to!

4. YOGURTS:

If you are fancying something sweet and have had enough of ice cream (like you ever would) then yogurt is another food that is good to stick to.

Once you start feeling like you can eat some food that's a little harder, I would suggest eating things that are still soft but are more filling such as soft bread and cheese. You may have to rip the bread up into smaller pieces as it may still be sore for you to bite into the bread and rip it with your teeth but it's good to get your teeth used to eating normal food again!
